I was talking to a photographer today who shoots sporting events.  He told me that he payed for this software. 

I wonder what you guys think about this VS our free CPG.

We don't know commercial competitors, as we won't buy a copy just to take a look at it. See "Write a feature comparision review for Picture Galleries". You can't expect Coppermine devs to post a fair review - it would always be biased. Imo, there are three photo galleries worth mentioning: Menalto Gallery, 4images and (of course) coppermine. You'll have to figure out wether you need the features the commercial app is providing that make it unique.
