What is the correct ftp mode for which files?
« on: August 19, 2008, 02:31:08 pm »

I've just downloaded Coppermine and then I read in 2.1 How to install the script
"Upload all files onto your webserver (making sure to use the correct ftp mode) instruction"
So what IS the correct ftp mode?
I guess we're talking either ASCii or Binary mode for ftp files but which mode for which files?

Using the search button using the terms "binary" and "ascii" returns the answer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
all images (jpg, gif, png) should be uploaded as binary, all files that contain text (php, htm, css, js etc.) in ascii mode. Most ftp clients have an "auto" mode that will use the proper mode for each file; if your ftp client has "auto", use it. Sometimes (on some servers, I should say) you will encounter double line breaks in files that were uploaded in ascii: in this case, try "binary" for all file types.

Hope this helps
