Removing the "Powered by Coppermine" - Not what you think
« on: February 04, 2008, 01:05:49 am »

So in CPG v1.5 you can remove the "Powered by Coppermine" from the gallery..?

http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/theme_copyright.htm

If this is the case why can't we just do it with the current version?

Especially since it says:

"The reason behind this was an additional license add-on that disallowed users to change the line. The dev team has reviewed this policy for cpg1.5.x and decided that end users are allowed to change or remove the line in legal terms."

So since it's legal for us to remove it why isn't there support for this for users of 1.4?

Read more carefull, it still says:

However: We have a forum policy for the support board instead: support will only be given for galleries that show the "Powered by Coppermine" tag unobfuscated.

BTW, 1.5.x isn't released yet!

I know it isn't released yet, but if it's an option being offered in 1.5, especially since it's a legal choice for a user of the open source software, why isn't it being supported for lesser versions..? I read carefully and saw the text you quoted, but until I receive support for HOW to remove the "Powered by..." I still am adhering to the forum policy and should still be able to receive support. Right?

If you think of it like that, then you are right, but I'm not going to help you with it :)

That's fine with me, but I'd imagine someone will eventually. Especially since this issue will be more prevalent when 1.5x is released. I guess I'll go post in the support forum now asking. Thanks

Actually since I'd need to post in either this forum or the skins forum I'll just post in here and use this thread.

So, how do we remove the "Powered by" line from the footer?

Thanks!

In previous versions of Coppermine the "Powered by Coppermine" used to be obfuscated to make it hard for non-coders to remove the tag. The reason behind this was an additional license add-on that disallowed users to change the line. The dev team has reviewed this policy for cpg1.5.x and decided that end users are allowed to change or remove the line in legal terms.
the policy changes are only for the cpg1.5 version, not for previous version.
Don't ask for this, it was discuted more times before...

As Francois and Sawey pointed out: it's our decision what license we release under. cpg1.4.x doesn't allow you to drop the footer. In cpg1.5.x, you might be allowed to do so - not entirely sure if this will stay that way for the release. We will not discuss this any further. Closing, locking.
