i would like to create a few separate categories and allow users to create and upload into any and all albums.

here is a scenario:
users: user1, user2
caterogories: landscapes, cars

- user1 creates a new album "ford" in "cars" and uploads a few photos in there
- user2 creates a new album "hawaii" in "lanscapes" and uploads a few photos in there
- user1 adds more photos to album "hawaii" in "lanscapes" category (originally created by user2)
....

is this possible?

basically, i want to give everyone a right to create albums and upload into each-others album in any category. no delete rights for ANYONE other than admin and original uploader.

any help is greatly appreciated!!

Yes and no.

users in a group with upload rights  can upload to any album that has permissions set to 'visitors can upload'.

But only admin can create albums in the public galleries.  There is a way, by making a couple of changes in the database, to move albums created by users from the user galleries into one of the public categories.
