German special Characters gone after Update to 1.4.9
« on: October 15, 2006, 04:13:10 pm »

Hello,

after Update from 1.3.2 to 1.4.9 there are mismatch in the german specialcharakter like "ö" oder "ä" etc.

Have look here for example. The usergallery is "Fröschle" but the name seams to be corrupt?

http://85.10.198.87/gallery/index.php?cat=10093

Thanxs for help
Eric

The language format has changed from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8. I have converted the new German and French files back to ISO. PM me.

Not the recommended solution - utf-8 is outdated and there are several drawbacks. Converting the language file back from utf-8 to iso-8859-1 is dead easy, there's no particular need to send them around using PMs.
Instead, do as suggested an many, many threads already: convert your textual content from iso8859-1 to utf-8, using the charsetmgr.php script that comes with coppermine.

@Pit: I understand that you're trying to be helpful, but if you actually have something to contribute, why don't you post it publicly instead of telling people to request those files by PM.

We have deliberately changed the default encoding from is08859-1 to utf-8 for very good reasons. Don't undermine that by sticking to old, outdated stuff.

Seems like you don't have iconv on your server.

Hi. love your CPG and NOW it works just fine.
I had the same prob as this German fellow (a few funny characters after upgrading to miost resent release) and I used the charsetmgr.php AND!! wow it did the trick :)
As admin of www.styrnas.se (Fotobanken) I want to thank you for all your effort in coding this fine system.
