how to allow users to upload files?
« on: May 02, 2006, 05:10:29 am »

most asked question? probably one of the top 10!

Before I get hammered with : "do a search" or "read the docs" ... I already have, and I thought I changed everything that was necessary for this to work. I am a new mother, and I am pretty dead I can tell ya right now! lol I probably shouldn't be on the computer, but the little guy is napping and this is about the ONLY thing that won't wake him up!  - so please go easy on me :)

As an Admin I can upload files, but as a regular user, I don't seem to have the permission to I get this error:
http://gallery.pinkmind.net/upload.php

"Error
Sorry there is no album where you are allowed to upload files "

If someone could please post as to where I am supposed to change anything to make this work, I would be really grateful,
Thanks in advance

so none of the threads that show after searching for the message you got can actually help you? And you read the docs, but can't find an answer?

Either
  • allow users to have a personal gallery or
  • allow them to upload to public albums, make sure to set properties of at least one public album to "visitors can upload"=enabled.

Except I cannot find in the admin panel anywhere to do this, could you give me direction once you login to the admin panel... you go ?...

Thanks for your reply :) I thought I was going to get yelled at ! lol

Okay. I believe I have everything set correct...

Administrators, Registered and Guest all have the same settings like this now:
Permissions:
Rating      Yes
Ecards    Yes
Comments    Yes

Public albums upload:
Allowed      Yes
Approval    Yes

Upload method:
Just the default

This is correct right? Is there anything I could have missed in the Config files?

I was also reading something about individual album permissions, where do I set those?

Wait found this in the album permissions

Permissions for this album
Visitors can upload files *     Yes    No

Im guessing visitors means registered users?

visitor means any group that is allowed to upload to public albums. Please read the docs carefully, we're reluctant to repeat stuff all over again that already is being explained in the docs. When registering on this board, you agreed to respect board rules. One of the board rules says that it's mandatory to read the docs before asking questions.

I have the same problem as Babyblue ... except I STILL can't find the "album permission"!!!
I know it's suppose to look like this: (https://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.udgang99.dk%2Fcpg140%2Fdocs%2Fpics%2Fedit_album.gif&hash=c6c81a9135efe95e49d45c7669c5bd3b298b6810)

... but I don't have the bottom half  - I only have THIS :

(https://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi49.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff292%2Fudgang99%2FCOBBERproblem.jpg&hash=2977adda744fb82ddbf7139513590b5f5717c772)

The top picture is of the album properties page. Your picture is of the category manger, so of course they look different. Please read the manual.

 AHA!!!
I figured out what the problem was !!!

For anyone else who can't figure this out as well, you have to click the "edit"-buttom on the INDEX-page ... DON'T go to the "album-page" !!!

...as suggested in the docs. It's all in it. You just have to read them. That's why we wrote the docs in the first place. Next time, please read the docs before asking for support.

...and of course you have read the coppermine documentation as well (you wouldn't have dared to hijack this thread if you hadn't already gone through the documentation as suggested before on this thread, would you?). Therefor, the solution provided in the docs (album properties, "visitors can upload files"=yes) of course doesn't apply to you. You rely on our mindreading capabilities instead, as you don't provide a link to your page, nor do you post a non-admin test user account nor a screenshot. ::)
