how many users can it take at the same time?
I'm worried that if too many are uploading it's gonna die or something

Hmm....I am not sure anyone has done testing on how much load the xppublish script can take.  Perhaps this is something you could do for use and report back.  If you run into performance issues...we might be able to develop a solution.  I personally only use it for myself and a few close relatives.  It has never been a problem for 2-3 simultaneous users.

Since the xp_publish script is only a webpage with special content there shouldn't be any more problems with multiple users than if same number of users use the "add picture" -function.

Of course multiple users with xp_publish can create a flood more easily than using gallery with browser but this is more like server bandwidth issue.

oh that's good to hear... bandwith shouldn't be a problem, the university network is like a big LAN, so it should be ok. There shouldn't be many users outside the university.
