Dumbing Coppermine Down !
« on: September 14, 2004, 12:08:52 am »

Is there anywhere in Coppermine to dumb down the features available.

I am new to this and I must admit it was incredibly easy to install and get running (much appreciated !).

At the risk of sounding like whinger is there any way of configuring settings to make a simple table of thumbnails, say six a page, that open straight to the new window feature you have after clicking on the intermediate sized picture ?

There are so many excellent features on Coppermine but I must admit I don't really need about 90% of them !!

What I am trying say, if there is no way of doing this on the existing system, is there likely to be a Coppermine 'Lite'

Not sure I have made myself clear!

Many Thanks

There's currently no such thing as a l"Coppermine light" (although we have been considering something along those lines for future versions). There have been requests in the past to have the thumbnails immediately open the full-size pop-ups, search the board for this feature/hack.
There are however gallery apps that have less features, maybe you should look for them if coppermine is "overkill" for you.
One of the features I have on my todo list for future versions however is the use of "admin templates", where the coppermine admin can decide not to have the full options pallette, but choose from 3 or 4 standard configurations that will affect the config and group settings. But this is just an idea for a distant future.

'Overkill' is a bit strong " ;)

I do think a light version would be good. I have searched the hacks section and saw a mod, but its a bit out of my league, hence the suggestion. Coppermine is at its best in portal type of site IMHO, and was recommended by a friend who is using his in just that.

I think the ease of install for such a complex system is amazing. I have looked at other 'simpler' versions through hotscripts and they all seem to be Coppermine 'wannabees' instead of keeping it simple.

If you are looking to make "light" version or a hack to make a simple version within the current system, please feel free to use me as test dummy. Dummy being the operative word !

Many Thanks
