The Case of the Disappearing Uploads
« on: September 03, 2004, 10:57:48 am »

Hi,

I've searched the docs and this board for my answers, can't find anything.
Important thing about me: newbie to Coppermine and can't do any programming other than standard html.

I've just added Coppermine to my webpage, and everything went (relatively) smoothly for my initial upload. However, now that I'm adding pictures, I'm having the following problem. When I batch add photos (I'm posting from my cd) into an album already containing photos there's no issue. Then i "delete the original sized photos" from the directory to save space using the "Resize Pictures" option number 4. After that, my photos won't load. The thumbs show, the files are still in the directory (normal_ has been removed, and files are smaller) but Coppermine won't show the image.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks

The Nomad

EDIT:
My server stats:
Linux Kernel version 2.4.20-021stab022.2.777-smp
Apache version 1.3.31 (Unix)
PHP version 4.3.8
MySQL version 4.0.20-standard

EDIT 2:
I've noticed that the gallery is still pointing to the normal_ image and no the "replaced" image. This seems to be the source of the problem, is this a bug (I doubt it from the quality of the software) or a problem ID:10T

You seem to be running cpg1.2.1 (which would mean you posted on the wrong board in the first place), but I strongly recommend upgrading to cpg1.3.2

You're right...sorry, I didn't realize which version I was running. The Coppermine gallery came bundled with my host - I installed it through something called Fantastico on the cpanel of my server.
Is it tough to upgrade?
Will I lose my photos?

As a temporary fix, I've manually changed the file names to normal_imagename.jpg from the old imagename.jpg and it's worked, but I don't think I can (or should) continue doing this in the future.

Thanks

I don't understand the following line of those instructions:

"Except for the "albums" directory, upload all of the new files and directories making sure not to overwrite the include/config.inc.php file, your anycontent.php file or the albums directory. "

Upload which new files?
Thanks

Upload everything except for the /albums directory (and everything inside it), anycontent.php, and include/config.inc.php.

Thanks Kegobeer
But if I'm upgrading, isn't everything already uploaded to my server? I'm confused. Should I be uploading another version?? Maybe IM me if I'm being a complete idiot.  :)

The steps to upgrading....

Backup your current Coppermine installation (files and MySQL database).
Download the latest version of Coppermine from this site.
Unzip/unpack to your computer.
Using your favorite FTP program, upload all the files (except the ones I mentioned in my previous post) to your Coppermine directory that's on your website.
Point your browser to yoursite.com/update.php.

Oh, one last question. How do you backup the MySQL database. I've backed up the files indicated in the docs, but the db is not mentioned

Solved. Thanks...everything works beautifully now. Nice addition of rotate/crop on 1.3...I was wishing for that when I first installed 1.2
