Relative URL to images in Coppermine?
« on: August 30, 2004, 09:05:25 am »

Im thinkin of installing Coppermine. I saw a review on hotscript.com that said that url to images in a Coppermine-gallery is relative. From the review: "All image URL's is changed when somebody adds new image(s) to gallery. All links are relative".

Is this true? Since I need to be able to post images to different forums it would work if this is true.

not exactly: the links are relative for you or any user while browsing coppermine, but you can have absolute links (that point to a single pic for example). Take a look at the demo: http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=2 is a relative path, as it refers to the position "2" of a pic inside the album #1. If the sort order is changed, the above url would change on the sort order, but: beneath the single pic, you'll notice a section called "file info" - there's a line saying "URL" - this is the absolute url of the pic that will never change (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/displayimage.php?pos=-4), no matter how the gallery is being sorted or to which album the pic will be moved - as long as the pic exists in your gallery (i.e. you don't deliberately delete it), the link http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/displayimage.php?pos=-4 will always point to that particular pic, so in your case you should point your link in your forum posting to http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/displayimage.php?pos=-4

The guy who posted this review on hotscripts.com either has been trolling the review section (might have come from another gallery project), or he hasn't been looking into the coppermine software nor the documentation that comes with it, that's why we encourage users of coppermine not only to (anonymously) vote on hotscripts, but to write a review there as well. So far, only very few have done so :\'(, although it's imo a great opportunity to give something back to the coppermine community, considering the fact that there are several thousand coppermine installs (afaik approx. 400,000+ downloads, although downloads of course don't equal installs).
