Change file name
« on: October 22, 2003, 01:45:09 am »

Hey everyone,

I think a cool feature would be the ability to change the file names of pics which people upload, doing so through CPG itself, not chaning names by FTP and in databases manually.

Is this already possible?  Could it be?  ;-)

Thanks,
rg.

Would it satisfy you to name them to your specs during upload? Or do you wish to change them at any time?

One is easy, the other is not so easy. :)

I'm refering to changing the names of files that OTHER people (users) upload, so I suppose I really couldn't rename them "during upload."

thanks,
rg.

Yes, I know that you want to rename other user's uploaded photos.  I'm asking if you would want to be able to do this at any time, or if you have a naming schema in mind that could be done at upload.

What about renaming the images to the loginname:

djmaze001.jpg
djmaze002.jpg
djmaze003.jpg
djmaze004.jpg

then each user has a max of 999 images well that should be enough.

Or just create a directory of the username NOT by id (and ofcourse change spaces inunderscores)

@DJMaze: Yes, that could be hacked into db_input.php in the picture upload section at the bottom.  The effort required would be light to moderate, depending on how complex you want to get.

My post was ment as answer, maybe i had to write it in a different way hyperion

Well me gonna implement Username instead of ID as directory in CPG for Nuke after conversation with GTroll, because it's far much easier to use in FTP mode than stupid numbers.

I suggest this is a feature request for the util.php (resize pictures) to be able to rename any uploaded file (although I don't see the reason why someone would want to do this). Wormie?

I don't really see why you would like to rename pics, but how would you like it to work?

Would you like to be able to name each single file or should coppermine rename the files in a particular way e.g. pic0001, pic0002, pic0003 ... ?

If anyone could tell me if this mod is available or an easy way for a rookie to do this I'd really appreciate it! I have videos uploaded in my site but never really bothered with customized thumbnails ... until now...

The problem is some of the files have filenames that wont work with the thumbs! files with characters in the name.. or .WMV instead of .wmv

They just wont work.  I cant rename the file because CPG wont recognize it... and I *really* dont want to delete all of them and upload them again with the correct filename.  Not only would it be a pain but I'd loose the "viewed" count!

Please let me know if there is a way to edit individual file names with CPG because it's been driving me crazy!! Thanks!!  ;D

ps. I now know I should be more careful with the naming of the files (no spaces, special characters or uppercases from now on!) but that really doesnt help with the files that have been there for months  :-\\
