I am upgrading a cpg 1.4.26 installation in a 2-step process. Upgrading to cpg 1.5.x is the first step. The existing cpg installation stopped running when the host upgraded to PHP Version 7.4.28. My question is can I follow the normal 1.4 to 1.5 upgrade path under this version of PHP?

You can not use PHP 7 to upgrade from CPG 1.4 to CPG 1.5.  Many hosts provide some method to revert to PHP 5.x so you can take those steps.  CPG 1.6.x must be used with PHP 7 and later.

The server is now PHP Version 5.5.38
The CG installation is 1.4.26

Do I have to upgrade CG to 1.4.27 before upgrading to 1.5.48?
Will 1.5.48 run under PHP 7.x?

In the end I will need to have a CG install running under PHP 7.x - what would be the steps?
When do I tell the host to turn PHP7.x back on and what version of CG should be running at that time.

I've read the documentation and can't find a procedure that addresses that.
Also, what and where is version 1.6?

As it states, you cannot upgrade directly from 1.4.x to 1.6.x. Instead you will need to upgrade to 1.5.x first then use the upgrade script to make the final jump. Please follow the instructions carefully, especially the section on backing up and checking theme/plugin compatibility. If you run into problems just ask and we will be happy to advise.
