Userpics folder
« on: October 21, 2003, 04:56:28 am »

Imagine this:

You have big picture gallery, a lot of users uploading pics and all those pics ending up in "USERPICS" folder. When its over 2000 files and 55MB, go try to edit one pic/file in that folder. Its slow and really sluggish.

I don't know any solution for this but thinking about this:

Rename the userpics folder to something like

userpics1, make new folder "userpics," when new one fills up rename it userpics2 and make another one for default pictures upload: userpic.

ONly thing that worries me in this is that they pics would lose their location.... from userpics to userpics1.

It would be really cool to see some type of solution to this "problem."

-I had proposed few weeks back that everytime you create an album, it automatically should create its own folder so all pics uploaded to that album end up in that folder instead of one "userpics" folder.

If just editing one picture is what the request is about then this is going to be handled in next version where you will have a link below each pciture to edit that particular picture...

Well, thats not the whole request. Don't you think having one folder for ALL albums kinda mixes things up?

If creating a folder when an album is created with that albums name is hard to implement then... leave it.  :?

I don't know about anyone else but currently our gallery has like 167 albums...

It would be great to see pictures related to "USA_Tank" album go into the "USA_Tank" folder. Makes things easier for those who upload and have to backup, organize and manage the galleries. It does not clutter everything in one folder...

It has been stated in the past and I will state it again - there will not be different folders for pictures / albums in the standard release anytime soon

Any reason, why not?

It sounds logical for each album to have its own folder... atleast each category if not each album.
