how does a user download mp3, movie files etc
« on: July 15, 2004, 02:43:00 am »

I have several movie and mp3 files on my board. it is for a group I belong to and I want to allow users to download the mp3 or movie files not just have them play automatically. how is this done, am I missing something?

I merged your identical postings (which were posted on different sub-boards). Please do not double-post nor cross-post in the future (double-posting doesn't make supporters more willing to look into your issues)...

I found this thread, in 2 minutes, which has exactly what you want, simply by searching the 1.3 support board for the word 'download'.

I did a search. I must have not used the right keyword. Thankfully you are smarter than I am and helped me out. I have a math test you can take for me too grin

I did the hack you said and it modd'd the files properly. If I go to a mpeg or mp3 it puts a link to download the file. HOWEVER If I go to an rm file, mov, or any other file that doesnt auto play there is no such link. One can right click on the thumbnail and "save target as" or click on the thumb to play the selected vid/file. Is there a way to put "download here" under all of those too...?

ps. I passed the math test, so dont worry about that now. grin

stop for a moment, take a deep breath and think about it: why doesn't anybody answer to your postings?  :-\\

maybe no one knows the answer. which I find highly doubtful with so many brilliant people on here and the answer was given above. I have done massive searches on this and every search I do doesnt give this answer. I know there is a solution however. I also know the only way to keep this topic towards the top of the list, where people read and scan, is by posting in it. If it falls to the very bottom, who would see it or answer it?

You keep the thread very high on the list with this behaviour, but you don't make supporters more inclined to help you - they even become more reluctant to help if you keep on bumping every now and then. That's why I asked you to think twice why nobody posts an answer.

ok well I will just shut up then and accept this cannot be done. you could have just posted an answer twice now. instead you decided to lecture me on behavior. I will not post anymore to this thread, apparently giving an answer takes more effort than telling me what I have done wrong to ruin etiquette.

Giving answers would require more information, and a nicer attitude from your side, since you're requesting custom code modifications.
I was hoping you would give this a second thought, and would have posted the necessary information for supporters to be able to help you. I can do very little, as I neither have an .rm file to test with, nor do I have rm-player installed, nor am I willing to install one. A more generic error report would have helped. It's always a bad idea to just post "xyz doesn't work. How do I fix it?" - instead, a detailed posting will help supporters most. This is how a clever request for support would have looked like in your case:
Quote
I have a .movie file that resides here: http://mydomain.tld/my_coppermine_folder/albums/my_movies/sampple_movie.mov - it can be viewed on the page http://mydomain.tld/my_coppermine_folder/displayimage.php?pos=-1234
I have changed to code in the file foo_bar.php from
Code: [Select]
// some example code hereto
Code: [Select]
// stuff I've changed, but I don't see the download link.
.
I wouldn't bother about you, your attitude simply is not OK imo - the only reason I still reply to this thread is that I can see that others might be interessted in download links for multimedia files as well.

well thats all you had to say. I have no idea what is or is not the proper way to post a problem. it does say it in the FAQ, maybe a modification of a few simple documents for the new posters to know how to do it. So here it goes with a try.

I have an album at http://www.tng-arizona.org/pics(note, adult content ) , you dont need a user/pass to upload or download. I have a .rm file in http://tng-arizona.org/pics/albums/movies/clothespinpain.rm . In the previous solution above, I am now able to download .mpg and .mp3 files that used to just play in IE with autostart. I have not made any self mod coding on this as I dont know how to. Any help given would be appreciated.

edit displayimage.php, find
Code: [Select]
        $pic_html = "<a href=\"{$picture_url}\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"document_link\"><img src=\"".$pic_thumb_url."\" border=\"0\" class=\"image\" /></a>\n<br />";and replace with
Code: [Select]
        $pic_html = "<a href=\"{$picture_url}\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"document_link\"><img src=\"".$pic_thumb_url."\" border=\"0\" class=\"image\" /></a>\n<br />".
"<p><a href=\"download.php?pid={$CURRENT_PIC_DATA['pid']}\">Click here to download</a></p>";
You made the ram file a document, not a movie. If you had posted properly before, we could have saved a lot of time.

I uploaded it just as I would upload any other file. there wasnt a specification to upload it as a movie, picture, text, swf or anything else. I didnt realize I had to specify it as a movie, I didnt have to do that for the mpg or mp3 ones. thanks for your help

it worked, thanks. I wont bother you anymore. I would rather get my tooth pulled, run over by a car or smashed up by an elephant than ask for your help again. the most painful process ever.

goodbye
