Still stuck, no obvious difference between the two configs regarding screen size settings that I can see.

Thanks, that fixed the intermediate, then I noticed "last uploads", and that example of 2 column display doesn't quite fit either, too wide. After posting this I'll try and compare the config on this with one gallery that works & see if I can spot the problem, will post again if I fix it within the next few minutes, otherwise I'm stuck again.

Config -> Thumbnail view ... Unset Show dropdown list of all pages next to tabs

Well done that man!!!!!

That seems to have fixed it. Strange setting, don't think I've ever changed it before - obviously a lot I don't understand, but as long as it works!!

I will add overrides for the things that you had to change in your config(s) and post an updated version in the thread for the mobile_light theme. Thanks very much for your work in helping to make this theme work better with small displays.

Firstly, I'm pleased that my galleries now look so much better on a mobile phone, also that I've been able to "help" in a strange way to get to the end result. You've used your knowledge to solve the problems I've come across, without it I'd still be stuck where I was several years ago trying to get a mobile theme to work properly for me.

Will try another upgrade from 1.15.46 later. Keep your fingers crossed....... mine are!! Makes typing difficult though.

You'll all no doubt be pleased, and relieved, that a recent upgrade from 1.15.46 worked on another site, and also the mobile theme is fully working - thanks to the help on here. I managed to remember the little "fixes" needed to get it right for me.

Just leaves a gallery with 25,000 images to upgrade now.

Must remember to "tick off" a few topics I started!!
