I believe a plugin would have to be written to add full name to the user registration and database information.

IMHO that's not just a hint, but the solution. Make all custom user profile fields mandatory and set the label for that field(s) accordingly.

IMHO that's not just a hint, but the solution. Make all custom user profile fields mandatory and set the label for that field(s) accordingly.
Of course, the problem there is that one has to remember to save/re-apply those changes after a CPG version update.
