Succesfully uploading videos but unable to play them?!
« on: September 29, 2016, 07:25:19 pm »

Hello,

A friend of mine is working with Coppermine and would love to upload and play videos via his website.
Unfortunately, he has been unable to play videos as am I. Uploading seems to work as it should, but playing is a different story.
He and I get the error that there's a plugin missing but we can't figure out what plugin it might be.

Would love to have some help/advice with this.
Regards,

This has been asked and answered many times. I suggest to convert your video files to a HTML 5 friendly format (e.g. mp4 h.264) before uploading it to your gallery. See also http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_video.asp

I'll check it out, but is this the only way? Shouldn't it also work in Coppermine itself?

To play non-HTML 5 compatible formats, you always need to install browser plugins. So if you want that all your visitors are able to view the videos, I highly recommend one of the said formats.

I think a number of browsers may have expanded the formats they will play as html5 video.

If you are able to make changes to your CPG database, you could try this:

In the *CPG*_filetypes table, find the entry for mpg and mpeg.  Change the player from WMP to HTMLV.

But, as André mentioned, your best bet is to convert your videos (to mp4/m4v).

Okay, I'll definitely look into it, let my friend know and see if this is something that would work.
Thank you!
