Moving To New Server
« on: July 01, 2016, 09:10:51 am »

Hi, I'm trying to move a members galleries to a new server, but the backup file that I have is too large and won't upload via ftp.
How can I get the backup installed?

You will need to speak to your host. They provide the amount of available space and it sound like you need more.

The amount of space I have is fine, I just can't get the backup uploaded so someone said that you can split it up into smaller portions but I don't know how you do that.
They also said I could unpack the backup and upload the files, but I would need to know where to put them in the installation.

Most FTP packages upload file by file. Use something like FileZilla rather thane any FTP package built into your cpanel and it should work. If not it is really something your host needs to help you with.

Are you having an issue with files or database?
A good host (in my opinion) will have a migration tool in their cPanel that will allow direct ftp from the old host/server to the new one. Typically much faster than download/upload - though that should work as well.

My host offers a FTP and a cPanel migration.

perhaps you have gotten it working now?
