Missing pictures
« on: March 19, 2015, 04:16:32 am »

I'd like to know why the pictures in my gallery keep disappearing. It's happened 4 times within the last week now! I'm tired of constantly re-uploading everything! Why does it keep happening??

Are you using a free hosting service (000webhost)? Are you reaching your limits and the host is automatically removing images or database lines? Are there any errors?

Basically I'm saying ask your host, I doubt this is a coppermine issue.

I would agree. Site11 is part of 000webhost who are well known for this sort of thing. They are in my view nothing less than a spam host, using other peoples work to spread their spam and to promote their paid services. Even then, their level of support is dreadful at best. On the spam front, while it is better these days than in times past you would see every forum in the world littered with spam links to them, including this one. A lot of it was due to their schemes where if their users "advertised" their services and got people to sign up they would get bonuses.

Sorry to rant, but over the years I have been forced to spend many hours clearing their spam of many forums and helping their users recover all the work they put in to setting up their sites only for 000webcrap to destroy it. That pales into insignificance to the conversations I have had with their rude and arrogant support managers when trying to help those poor souls that have ended up using their garbage.

I'm nowhere close to their disk usage limit, I've only used 4% of it. The only error I see in the gallery is this one:

Notices
/include/functions.inc.php

Notice line 4308: Undefined variable: result

As others have said, this is most likely an issue with your isp...
Coppermine would not delete your files unless you asked it to, and then would clean up the database as well.

That notice would have nothing to do with this.

Some hosts restrict database size (or lines) as well as disk usage.

I've had my site there for over a year without any problems before and I just don't understand why there'd be one now. But fine whatever. I guess that's just the way it is if you can't afford web hosting.

I also had such issues while I ran my gallery on a free web host. With ~ 85k pictures my gallery have ~ 170k picture files (thumbnail and full size) on the file system. Sometimes file systems crashes and mark files as corrupt, at least I assumed this was the issue in my gallery :P I created a plugin to check for missing (and additional) files because of that reason

Since I moved my site to a different host, this never happened again. Additionally, I agree with the others, that Coppermine is probably not the reason why files disappear/get deleted.
