Which plugin to play wmv files?
« on: February 03, 2015, 07:06:34 am »

New install of coppermine 1.5.34. I uploaded a wmv file, and when I click on that, it tells me I need a plugin in order to play these files. I looked all over and done a search, and thought I looked everywhere in the documentation, but so far cannot figure out which plugin I should have for this. I'm using FF and IE 11 with windows 7 OS.

Ok, found the problem and will answer my own question for others:

The problem was with FireFox, I did not have the required plugin. As far as IE, I checked with that and the wmv files would play fine- although there was a little wait until it started which may irritate some. I will encourage MP4 video formats that will stream- unlike wmv file format which have to be fully loaded before play. But, if you have to have your FireFox to be able to play wmv files, follow the directions on this page to check to see if you have the plugin already and just need to activate it, or if you don't have it, how to get it.
