is there a way to change the URL on file information so that it displays the direct image link?

will not become a feature, but I guess you didn't want to suggest one, but instead you're looking for a way to do so now; so you posted on the wrong board (feature requests is the place where proposed new features for future versions of coppermine can be posted). This has been asked (and answered before, please search the board (I don't remember the proper thread myself).
