How to enable viewing an album on a website
« on: October 08, 2014, 04:51:42 pm »

Newby here! ;)

I've installed Coppermine on www:\\erfgoedede.nl.
I do host at Versio, and was using Installatron.
All went fine.

I did upload some pictures, using the upload-option in Coppermine.
After changing some settins (max.size and GD-version) this went fine too.

But how can I make the contents of that album visible to visitors of the site?
(Told you: newby!  ;D)

You used an auto-installer. Please read this for more information http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/auto-installers.htm

To perform the upgrade, you'd need FTP access to your website. I assume you'll find a directory with a quite obvious name where your Coppermine files are located.

Then, read this to move your gallery if applicable: http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/export.htm#moving_folder

Thanks. Clear answer.

So I decided to go the right way: I did uninstall Coppermine, downloaded and unpacked the latest version to a folder on my computer, went to my server and made a new database for Coppermine.

Now the manual says: It's mandatory to upload all folders and files that come with the Coppermine package to the webserver.

I'm using Filezilla, so uploading to the server is no problem.

But where should I place the Coppermine files, in order to make them findable for the install-script? ::)

Your current website (http://erfgoedede.nl/) seems to have at least one file: http://erfgoedede.nl/index.html

You now need to decide what you want to provide on your website. If you just want to have Coppermine, I suggest to upload all Coppermine files to your websites document root (where index.html is located). If you want to have an entry page, a board, blog or whatever, it's probably a good idea to upload Coppermine into a separate directory (e.g. coppermine, cpg, photos, gallery, ...).

Then, upload all folders and files to the document root or directory. When done, you have to open your browser and visit that location (e.g. http://erfgoedede.nl/install.php or http://erfgoedede.nl/cpg/install.php).

Thank you.

I did download and unpack the cpg15x folder into a temporary map on my computer, and renamed him to Afbeeldingen
Then I used Filezilla to upload the map Afbeeldingen into the public-html folder of the domain www.erfgoedede.nl
After changing the permissions for "include", "albums", "albums/userpics" and "albums/edit" to 777, and creating a database,
I started Firefox, and went to http://www.erfgoedede.nl/afbeeldingen/install.php.
And it worked, so I could run the installerscript.

All went fine.

Now I'm going to check the settings, make an album and upload some pictures.

Should be no problem  :)

So this thread can be closed.

Hi Janno,

Glad you got it sorted. You may have mussed it, but at the bottom of each post there is a blue area where there is a button marked "Topic Solved". That allows you to close or re-open your own threads. I'll close this one now but it would be great if you could close your own threads should you require any more help.

Good luck with your site.
