Replacing picture files
« on: February 08, 2014, 09:27:56 pm »

Hi,

I have overworked some photos and want to update them in my Coppermine gallery. How can I do this?

Can I simply overwrite the picture files in the album folder? But what happens with the thumbnail then? Shall I create a new thumbnail offline and overwrite them too?

Of course I do not want to delete the old photos and upload the overworked ones because then all legend texts would be be deleted and I had to add them again.

Thanks a lot for a hint!

Best regards
Jan

Jan,
You can upload (via ftp) the replacement full size photos - overlaying the ones you want to replace.
Then go to Admin Tools, and select 'Update thumbs and/or resized photos' and option for 'Both thumbnails and resized photos'.
Adjust the limit if desired, and Auto refresh.
Select album(s) to process at the bottom, and submit...

Of course you could do the resizing on your pc and upload all the replacements... But cpg can do the work for you.

I recommend to use the plugin, as I currently don't know if Coppermine will resize the full-sized picture if it exceeds the Coppermine settings  or even update its dimensions if they differ when you replace the files via FTP. Depending on the amount of updated pictures it's maybe worth to test what happens, but the plugin should be fool proof.
