Common themes for Coppermine and SMF?
« on: January 17, 2014, 04:00:16 pm »

Aside from Curve - the default in both applications, and short of manually looking at all themes in both apps...
Has someone put together a list of themes in common between Coppermine and SMF to give a similar look/feel to SMF and Coppermine?
I've tried searching here and google with no success.

Taking first venture into bridging Coppermine to SMF with Simple Portal.
Bridging all went fine - now looking for choices for the visuals.

I'm sure I'll end up doing some customizing, but figured similar looks would be a better starting point...

Any input welcome...

I've been trying to find them for years to no avail.  I have got some matching custom themes made for SMF 2 and Coppermine, but I didn't make them, so can't share them unfortunately.  Would be nice to have some more available though.  One to match the new default theme for SMF 2.1 will be required soon.  And SMF 1 will shortly go unsupported.

The theme guy's that make SMF themes reckon the coppermine theme engine is a nightmare to work with, so it's always been hard to get them made.  ::)

DaMysterious has a list of phpBB3 themes he used to work on, though he hasn't been around for a while.

Is there a theme in particular that your looking for?

I haven't released any code yet and I haven't worked on it a lot but I've been doing tests with JavaScript and other template engines trying to standardize Coppermine's theme engine, it's just a lot of code to go though. A lot of it would probably involve some major changes so I haven't discussed anything with the team before now, especially because I don't have any working examples.

Yeah, I often hear about people struggling with out theme engine. I've had a little success playing with Bootstrap and also spent a lot of time trying to make a responsive theme. Sadly I lost it when I dropped my laptop last week but I have a lot of notes and when I get time I will try and rebuild them.

I didn't have a particular theme in mind,,, This is for a non-profit social org, and was looking to give them a few choices to select from.

It's a site I used to support (for over 10 years) coming back to me for help after their thoughts on replacing turned out too costly... And less functional than what they had.

Re-implementing Coppermine for them, and leaning towards an integration with SMF/SimplePortal for the structure - which it seems I can integrate with the 'backend' support they need.
Which led me to the common theme question...
