Permissions to view documents

I am a newbie.  On my site I have a category for photos and another category for pdf documents.   In the photo section unregistered visitors can view thumbnails and intermediate images.  Cannot view or download full size images.     However for PDF documents, the unregistered visitor can open the the full pdf document.    Is there a way to prevent this?    I am using a "thumb_pdf.gif" for my thumbnail and intermediate images.   Running  cpg 1.520

The easiest way should be to grant access to your PDF albums just for registered users.
