uploading remote pictures as links instead of files
« on: April 19, 2013, 04:41:45 pm »

Hello,

Is it possible that albums display images that are on remote server instead on local server in albums folder. SO, I would like to insert URL instead of whole file. Is that possible to do?

THanks,

Veki

Sorry, the hotlinking of files is not possible with the current version of CPG. We used to allow it in 1.4.x but due to some security issues this was removed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know that was never a core feature of Coppermine. The files have always been stored in the albums folder, even if you entered an URL at the file upload form.

You maybe want to look at this plugin, if you want to swap your albums folder (please read the plugin thread and support request carefully to understand what the plugin does and how it is supposed to work).

Yes that is true. We used to allow URL uploads as I am sure you remember. Joachim put it simply "It Sucked, so we removed it". As you quite rightly say it still copied the pic from the remote server so the albums folder. I slightly misread what veki was asking.
