I have similar issue, followed instructions but must be missing something. Get error messages with both single and multi upload. Picture is stored in the album folder.

Using Multi file upload --

Error executing ImageMagick - Return value: 127<br /><br /><div align="left">Cmd line : <br /><span style="font-size:120%">/usr/bin/convert -quality 80 -antialias -geometry 128x68  'albums/userpics/10001/1~3.jpg' 'albums/userpics/10001/thumb_1~3.jpg'</span></div><br /><br /><div align="left">The convert program said:<br /><span style="font-size:120%"></span></div>

Using single file upload --

Critical error
Error executing ImageMagick - Return value: 127

Cmd line :
/usr/bin/convert -quality 80 -antialias -geometry 128x68 'albums/userpics/10001/1~4.jpg' 'albums/userpics/10001/thumb_1~4.jpg'

Get same messages regardless of size or quality.
