Trying to upload old album to new gallery 1.5.20

After failing miserably to upgrade to a new version, I decided to start clean and reinstall a brand new gallery. The only thing I left behind was the old album hoping it would be possible for the new gallery to recognize it.
Once done, the new gallery does not recognize the old album and categories.
I sincerely apologize in advance if my question is stupid (I had not touched my gallery in ages since I was happy with it, hence I lack practice), but is there a way for me to get my new gallery to recognize the old album?
Thanks is advance for help and/or pointing to a pre-existing thread if one exists.
