iPhone Compatibility
« on: May 04, 2011, 12:31:46 am »

When logged in from an iPhone/iPod Touch, the Coppermine-Gallery will be simplified into a custom iPhone Version..
Was thinking about this because i wanted to make an iPhone Wallpaper Website

That's already possible with the 'theme_switch' plugin (which isn't officially released yet, but available in our svn repository). You'll have to create a separate theme for mobile devices if you want to use that plugin.

You may also want to look at the related threads:

I doubt that we will ever implement and iPhone mode, but maybe a special mode for small screen resolutions in general.

This is very sad to hear :(
It would be phenomenal if there was a mobile phone app that could interface with coppermine as theres so many with smart phones these days.

Would love to see this software to be able to support these.

That's not what the thread starter asked for. He/she asked for a customized browser output.

What do you mean I would have to create Seperate theme? Are you saying I would have to construct a actuall iPhone CPG WebApp theme for this to work? Or is there already out there?

This is a feature request. If you need support, start a new thread in the support board.

This board is for suggesting features for future versions of coppermine.

How do you decide the difference between a support and feature request?

Consider these:
- you want an answer now, rather than a future version
- the solution mostly benefits yourself, rather than most other users

If either/both are true, that means you want support, so post in the support board corresponding to the topic.

Thank you for your cooperation.

I won't close this topic, as it's still a valid feature request.

By the way: all Coppermine themes are compatible with any device that uses a (modern) browser. If you want to optimize the output for small displays, I already told you what you can do even now.

It seems that you haven't understood what I tried to explain you. There's already a plugin that automatically detects all devices with a small display and uses your desired theme for that devices (there's much more than just iDevices that may access your gallery). All you have to do is to choose (and maybe modify) an already existing theme or create a new theme that fits your needs. You're right that there's currently no theme that was especially designed for mobile iDevices.

Thanks for keeping this thread open.  I will want the theme switcher too, when released. And a single column expandable theme (my style preference; like WP-touch plug-in for Wordpress).

Further to theme-switcher feature, please consider adding  a sub domain override option (i.e if getenv( "HTTP_REFERER" ) or whatever contains a "mobile" sub-domain like mobile.newswest.org then override the getRaw('HTTP_USER_AGENT') lookup).

BTW: Another feature seen in a couple of Wordpress mobile plugins is an option to provide a link or button the user selects to enable / disable the mobile theme switcher (e.g. a cookie based toggle button ).
