Is it possible to get an email when there's a new version of coppermine photo gallery?

We decided a long time back that we do not want to send out emails in this way. The world is so full of junk emails we do not want to add to it.

The admin should be able to see if an update is available from the coppermine admin panel anyway as it reads the news feed.
