Marking new thumbnails 'New'

Is there any way that new uploads (say in the last 30days - user selectable) can have there thumbnails marked in someway, such as a star. This would enable returning users to know which albums contained new images. The lastest album only contains the latest uploads rather than those uploaded over a given period. I don't have a gallery at the moment but want to know if this feature is only available with certain themes.

Afaik that's not possible out of the box, but should be possible with a mod or plugin.
