Modify twentyten them

Hi! I have not install yet 1,5 version, beacause i'm thinking about the theme to install and modify it. i'm thinking about the twentyten them. Is there a possibilily to insert links or a menu in the left part? I have draw a little on the pic  about what i am thinking to do. can you tell me what or where to modify so that the gallery stays on center?

If your menu has a fixed width, just add a blank div with the same fixed width on the right side and your gallery remains centered.

But it won't move the gallerery lower? i don't have the code for the menu, can you please give me an example of code?
