Are there any known issues with godaddy hosting?
« on: November 08, 2010, 09:16:13 pm »

I am wondering if anyone has had known issues with godaddy.com hosting coppermine.

I have had mixed results:

1.  I had an install from the zip file I downloaded here work on the free "ad supported hosting" on godaddy.com

2. Their coppermine in  "my applications" that comes with their paid hosting set itself up quickly and easily (I discovered this option after 3 days of failures described below:

3.I ftp'd the install files exactly the same as I did in (option 1) like I did on their free hosting I got all the files to match, the database connects on their server, I get four greens on the writable files page, BUT then I get to the TEST the database page of the coppermine installer, I have entered the proper names and passwords (checked by other people) and all it says is that it cant connect
specifically:

-------

The following errors were encountered and need to be corrected first:
Could not create a MySQL connection, please check the MySQL details entered
MySQL error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

-------

I have checked the boards and you have sent everyone to the host

I emailed the host and they mumbled something about "third party software" ask them.

I was just wondering if there might be an issue with their already using "my application" to set up coppermine directly
(which was WAY easier and faster than uploading myself)

so working site on freehosting:
www.machinesandmagic.com/coppermine

working site godaddy uploaded:

www.garykieswetter.com/coppermine

2 failing sites with database failure:

www.garykieswetter.com/test/coppermine2

www.garykieswetter.com/test/test/coppermine

==========

Is there a way to tell what is wrong.

To correct your Mysql error try replacing "local host" with the database server address. You can find it in phpMy Admin -  it will be similar to 10.8.11.38
