A coppermine gallery for a free forum possible?
« on: June 17, 2010, 10:44:31 pm »

Hi there. I'm new here and recently discovered Coppermine Gallery.
I run a forum, hosted for free by http://www.forumotion.com/

I talked to their support team and asked whether I could put a link for Coppermine gallery to the forum and I've learned that it is possible to put a link to the gallery by
Just making a navigation button on my forum to the gallery.

However, I heard from a friend that we need our own database. I'm confused and need your advice

Thanks

If I understand you correctly, then you will need your own web server space in which to install and run Coppermine. Apparently, you are operating a forum (phpBB in this case) in a shared environment hosted via third-party where you have access only to that particular script and nothing more, correct?

A workaround is to search for a free Coppermine setup similar to what you have now with your forum, but keep in mind that using these providers leaves you very limited in your ability to make changes and/or customize, and possibly update. Searching for and administering this type of setup (and support thereof) is beyond the scope of Coppermine support, however.

The solution to both is to purchase web space and install your gallery and forum in an environment where you have complete control (based upon host limitations, of course).
