I'm not sure if I understand #3, but you say the META tag is missing?
No, actually I mentioned the {META} token.
You should double check to see if the {JAVASCRIPT} token is missing too.

It is well described in your documents package.

Look for the missing mandatory tokens in your custom theme.

I will consider to install a second gallery that is. I've tried with different browsers, but it doesn't make any difference

OK guys, some good news here:

I inserted the missing META and JAVASCRIPT tokens and that fixed the issue of the missing browse button. (Thanks Joe Carver)

I emailed my host and asked them to check the Apache logs (regarding the 500 upload error during flash upload) and explained the problem. A couple of hours later I received an email in which they said they'd adjusted the security settings (they didn't specify what they'd done), and asked me to retry. I did and it worked! So, this problem is now solved. (Thanks Joe Carver and Netbox (web host))

However, I mentioned another problem, and I've created a thread for it here: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/board,115.0.html
