some images not appearing

having trouble with some images not showing up:

<img src="themes/eyeball/images/top_menu_left.gif" border="0" alt="" /> is not appearing (although the path is correct, and the image is there), while - <img src="themes/eyeball/images/top_menu_spacer.gif" border="0" alt="" /> shows up... (this is occurring in all Themes...)

also, others are appearing distorted.

Anyone?
