Hints on usage of tags in styles.css available
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:07:27 pm »

Im in the process of building up my own theme.
Got the background pic changed a title image implemented, and some other
minor changes made.

Now I want to adjust the colors but this is a very time consuming
job to do. Like ScHwErV sugested in his FAQ I'm searching out the
hex colors in styles.css and change them. Problem is, lots of elements
in my basic theme are of the same color so I change on color, have a
look so see if I hit the right element and try again ...

Has anybody any kind of information available which tags in styles lead to
which element? Some I found from their name, some by peeking in the
resulting HTML-Code but still haven't found them all. The color of admin_menue
and sub_menue I changed by putting in an own tag in styles.css and added it to
template.html but there shure is a way to do without it if I could only find the right tag.
Same with the tables Which table uses wich Tag for its background colour?

I know I can find out for my own and I will if I have to but if anybody could give me
some hints it would save me hours.

What will be very usefull in your case would be to use Firefox with the excellent Firebug ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843) plugin. This great tool allows you to examin css or generated html on any live site and fiddle with it live. Simply use the inspect button on the element you wish to change and it will tell you exactly what line of css code you need to change.

Thanks for the tip. Maybe I should've read ALL FAQs on the board as I just
stumbled over this one http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,24056.msg123520.html#msg123520

Think these two will give me all the informations I need.

Just wanted to send a BIG BIG Thank You to Phill.
Firebugs was exactly the tool I needed.
The information it shows go even down to the line
in the css-file where the definition is done.

After changing the whole theme in about 2 hours
I not only saved lots and lots of time, i also learned
a lot about the structure of coppermine.

Tnx again.

In the future, please respect board rules. As suggested in the other thread where you have been told about board rules, you still haven't fixed the "Powered by Coppermine" link that is rendered invisible on your site, although you should now have the tool at hand that makes this do-able in less than a minute. There is no support for you unless you restore the footer - I mean it. The next posting you make with the footer tag not fixed will result in a ban.

OK, OK I'll fix it. >:(

I told you the theme will be changed shortly but OK!
I will have to find my way through a against ALL rules modified CLASSIC theme but OK!
This theme has been online for years and I was the first one to notice the wrong footer but OK!

Thanx for the tolerance for people who are new to the product, trying to get a very bad example of
using it back on the right track following ALL rules.

But allow some time do do it. I've got a job beside fixing galleries.
