admin cannot have a user gallery?
« on: September 13, 2009, 03:03:28 am »

i am having an issue upload pictures to my own gallery as an admin. I can upload to created albums but i cannot put them with the user galleries. I need a personal gallery with the rest of the users. Thanks.
if needed the gallery is located at www.ccclassics.org/gallery   u/p: bobby1/bobby1   bridged to phpbb 3.0.5

Usually, the admin personal album resides at:

http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/index.php?cat=10001

However, that user is Anonymous. You may have intentionally created that account, or restricted access within the Group Control Panel. Or it may be an issue related to your bridging your forum. I don't know how you have your settings configured, so I'll leave you with this and defer to those with more experience.

if it matters, my admin account seems to be user #2 on the forum.  (memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2)   could that be the problem?

sorry for hitting the check and x buttons i thought one of them was an edit button...

logged in with my admin account
-in admin mode,  hit upload file, i can upload a photo then it takes me to choose album, all i can choose is my test album, the only album i have created
-in user mode, hit upload file, i get "error :Sorry there is no album where you are allowed to upload files" then click the "create/order my albums" button it shows "error: You don't have permission to access this page."
-it still shows me as being logged on.

logged in with my test user i can upload only to its personal album.

Log in as admin, go your groups control panel and make sure that the admin group is allowed to upload to personal galleries as well as public ones. Attach a screenshot of that screen if you think that you did everything right but things still don't work as expected.

Looking at your attached pic of group settings, you have no space allocated for admin to upload to in the quota box.  Registered users have 5000 kb  Admin has nothing.  Could this be the reason?

Usually, "0" indicates unlimited.

For whatever reason, your User Pictures section doesn't conform to what I have seen in the past (not an actual indication of right or wrong, just differently configured). It's difficult to tell, because you have forum integration as well as a host of bot and spider registrations occupying what would usually be member galleries with the associated gallery directory identification number. Examples:

Admin http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/ http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/index.php?cat=10001
User 2 http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/ http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/index.php?cat=10002
User 3 http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/albums/userpics/10003/  http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/index.php?cat=10003
And so on... all not found returning a 404 error.

However, your gallery appears to have all users dumping their individual files directly into http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/albums/userpics/

As admin, your User Directory (which is usually 10001, but in your case, 10002) is located at http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/ (http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/index.php?cat=10002) but doesn't appear to exist. And if Coppermine is looking for that folder to place your User pictures into, and can't find it, and can't create it, that might be your problem. I don't know.

I would first try creating that directory and setting appropriate permissions (begin with 755, then 777). Then, see if you can upload pictures into your User Pics gallery.

Happens if you enable "silly_safe_mode". As a webserver with safe_mode enabled sometimes (if the webserver isn't configured properly) is not able to create sub-folders, this is what "silly_safe_mode" does: it disables the creation of individual folders for each user. Subsequently, all http uploads directly go into http://example.com/coppermine_folder/albums/userpics/, which is fine as long as you have only a few, but will get critical if you have several hundreds of pics uploaded. http://www.ccclassics.org/gallery/ currently contains only 115 uploaded files and therefore should not be affected. However, I suggest checking if you actually have safe_mode on your server.

"silly_safe_mode" is this mode something that could have been activated during bridging with phpbb 3.0.5 and something i can change or is this something i need to discuss with my host?

First - Login >> Admin Tools >> Display phpinfo

You can then see for sure if any safe_mode(s) are enabled.

Your host might be able to help

Wow
Something is wrong if you get a blank page.

Maybe you can also get the information if you turn on debug, but I am stuck why that does not work.
