Can't batch add or add from URL
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:50:40 am »

I'm having problems with batch add files and adding files from a URL and would appreciate some help.

When I try a batch add process, I go through the screens, choose the directory, choose which images I want to add from that directory and the album they should go into but when I select 'Insert Selcted Files' button it just takes me back to the beginning of the batch add process and no files are added.
I've checked all folder permissions and all are set to 755 (I've tried it with them set to 777 as well). I've also tried it with just one or two images rather than a whole load and it still doesn't work. There are no error messages.

The URL upload doesn't work either. It just says:

"The following uploads encountered errors:
URI/URL Uploads:
File Name/URL   Error Message
1. http://www.alananna.co.uk/gallery/albums/SE09/001.jpg"

But there is no error message.
I've reinstalled a fresh version of Coppermine 1.4.25 (without any plugins or hacks) as well just in case, and I've tried changing the GD2 and ImageMagick settings in the configuration settings, but all without any joy.

What else should I be trying?

Thanks,
Al.

Sorry... It may be a folder permissions problem after all.

I just tried it from an older folder and it seemed to work. I'll have to do some more experimentation as the new folders have the same permissions etc. but still don't seem to work. It doesn't seem to be a Coppermine issue though.

Hi Al,

Long time no speak. Hope you are enjoying the current wind conditions up your way.

Back on topic, please apply all the settings outlined in this section of the docs.

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble

Doing that will enable detailed error messages that should help you solve your problem.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Cheers Phil....
Wind has been good but I've been under doctors orders to take it easy for a while so haven't been out (much). I'm seeing the cardiologist on Weds and will hopefully get a clean bill of health and be able to get back out in earnest for the autumn.

On Topic: I think it may be a server issue as I was also having problems editing the details of files within an album with lots of files in it. As far as the upload problems were concerned, further testing showed that it only became a problem when a folder on the server that I was trying to batch upload from (or URL upload from) had more than about 75 files in it. To solve the issue I just did it in several batches using folders with 75 files or less in them.
I still can't edit files within these albums (unless i do them one by one). After searching through these forums I tried changing the suhosin parameters within my php.ini file but that didn't make any difference. In the end I just did a quick batch edit of the titles via a MySQL query in phpMyAdmin. Not ideal, but I got there in the end and will hopefully remember how to get around these issues next time as well.

Of course, if you have any further ideas on how to solve them then I'd be pleased to hear them.

Cheers,
Al.
