this only seems to happen with one folder.
I can upload images to the album one at a time and all is fine.
if i try to bulk upload to that folder [others work fine] i just get returned to the "select directory" page and nothing happens. I can upload images from the same folder one at a time to the same album.

Start looking at http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_support and do exactly as suggested there. You did quite the opposite.

Main point is: post a link to your gallery for a start, as we're not mind readers. In your case (as you have issues with batch-uploads), post a deep link as well to one of the files that you're having issues with. That's much better than apologizing: do as suggested there - post the information that we need to be able to help you.

I have read [and acted on] the link as posted 
Test account created and settings as the instructions request.
I have left suhosin disabled for now [as it is anyway].

I havnt changed anything else BUT I can now upload folders of 20+ files most of the time.
In attempting to get you a file deep link that wont cooperate I ended up uploading them all sucsessfully 

I ended up with 6 in a folder that wouldnt insert even one at a time but when I moved them to another folder they all went in straight away.

I will try putting another image in the folder and see if that goes then post again.

And while you're at it: do as suggested:

Just saying

I didnt give you any of that info as until I had a file that wouldnt load I didnt have a instance to report to you.....................

which is why I finished with

I dont want to put you to the bother of trying the test account or folloeing the link until I have a concrete  instance, as I said in trying to bet one everything loaded as it should.

I am doing as you suggested and reading/following the instructions carefully before I ask you to do anything.
