Download an Entire album
« on: May 08, 2009, 05:59:24 pm »

how about a download button that lets a user download an entire album, some thing like google picasa's web service.
As for bandwidth issues, make it switchable in config.

It can help those who want to backup the site but keep the folders organised, or to allow users to backup their own pictures.
Or just as a feature for bringing users into a site, and keeping them interested.

Usually causes bandwidth and time-out issues.
cpg1.5.x will contain an export feature for the admin.
Backups are best performed using your favorite FTP app.
There's a plugin for cpg1.5.x that will allow you to add an entire album to the favorites and subsequently use the download favorites feature for what you're up to.

I completely agree Jochim, but it's not just a feature for admins that I'm asking for, it's also for users.
You can add pics to favourites and download the zip that way, but what if there's hundreds of files?
Also, when backing up via ftp, all you get is the folder structure that CPG uses, and not broken up into albums. Then if you want to download the files for testing locally, or just storing on a hdd someehere, the folder structure makes little sense, it does'nt tell you what album a picture belongs too.
It's just a suggestion, it could make life easier for admins. And harder for you coders of course :D

If you get chance, could you or another coder have a look at this please...?

I'm not "demanding" an explanation, but if you have some documentation on how CPG organises picture id to album id and position, it will make enigma's life a lot easier, he's struggled with this for a couple of weeks now.
Thanks.

No way to circumvent that, that's why your feature request will almost certainly not go into the core. Our focus is on representation if pics in a web gallery, not on making it even easier for malevolent users to steal the work of others. Image downloads are rarely legitimate.

I guess you mean this plugin for cpg1.4.x
