Hey Hein,

I went through all that before.  The only thing in my php.ini that was not set specifically was the temp directory.  I set it and still got the same error.  And I assume (could be wrong) that the php settings would govern phpbb as well as coppermine, and I have no issues with that (nor with wordpress for that matter).

Any ideas?

I think what Hein is trying to suggest is that you should follow the procedures outlined in the upload troubleshooting guide. Specifically, posting a link to your gallery with single file upload enabled so we can see what error messages are generated.

also - fyi, the anchors in your links don't seem to go where you think they do - sorry for any confusion.

Things that need correcting.

1: You have used the simplescripts installer, learn to do it the recommended way rather than used dodgy installers.

2: You need to upgrade to the latest release (currently 1.4.19)

3: You need to restore visibility of the 'Powered by Coppermine' footer. Yes, it is there but in black on black so that is not really playing the game.

4: You have not provided a user account for us to test uploads properly.

5: You have not enabled single file uploads as requested above.

1: You have used the simplescripts installer, learn to do it the recommended way rather than used dodgy installers.

I can't uninstall it and reinstall it.  I have too much wrapped up in it.

2: You need to upgrade to the latest release (currently 1.4.19)

I will see what I can do.  Should I do this before or after anyone here does anything?  I thought it was supposed to give a notice when there was a new version.

3: You need to restore visibility of the 'Powered by Coppermine' footer. Yes, it is there but in black on black so that is not really playing the game.

The styles have been screwed up since I moved to the new host.  It will all get fixed, but my install has been running with the link in there since 2006 so I am fine with playing the game.

4: You have not provided a user account for us to test uploads properly.

I made a user and posted the password.  The only active user I had before that was me - I don't know what else I am supposed to do.

5: You have not enabled single file uploads as requested above.

I logged in as the test user, hit upload tired to upload a photo and got the same error that I got as the admin, so I don't know what you mean.

Update:  So I highlighted the whole page (to confirm the link was there but black on black) and what did I see?

Code: [Select]
Error Report
The following uploads encountered errors:
File Uploads:
File Name/URL Error Message
1. 0023.jpg Impossible to move.

Hooray!  An error message!  So I did my due diligence on the error (I know how everyone is about that) and since I already specified my temp directory once to no effect, I guess I am stuck with trying to figure out the open basedir restriction?

I dont have a server admin - I am on a virtual box, so anything that is gonna get done I apparently have to do myself.  So any help on that score would be sweet.

Also, one other thing.  I know this board has a real problem with people who 'don't read'.  I realize that everyone here is a volunteer.  But I am not a 12 year old kid.  I have been working with this application for years and ask questions when I don't know how to do what has been told to me.  If that is not the kind of help anyone is willing to offer, or if I am mistaken in my belief that I have researched the topic fully, please be explicit in your corrections.

Thanks in advance.

You don't have to perform an uninstall and re-install. Just perform an upgrade

2: You need to upgrade to the latest release (currently 1.4.19)

Now! Immediately. Right in this very moment. Asap.

Restore it NOW! No support for galleries with the link rendered invisible. "No support" as in "no support at all".

I ran the upgrade and oh my!  Since it undid most of the changes I made to the template, looky!  There is the link!

So I tried uploading again - same error.

You obvoiusly overwrote your custom theme. Restore that and correct the footer then enable single file uploads as per the docs.

4.11.4 Upload troubleshooting
If you are experiencing issues with coppermine's upload process, temporarily change your coppermine settings as suggested below to get more detailed error messages. This applies to all upload methods, not only HTTP uploads.

Log in as admin
Go to your coppermine page and log in as admin
Go to the config screen
Scroll to the bottom of the page
Expand the "Maintenance settings" section by clicking on it
Enable debug mode for everyone
(set Enable debug mode to "Yes: Everyone")
Leave display of notices switched off
(notices are only meant for developers. If you have idea what they mean, leave them off.)
Save the new settings by clicking on "Save new configuration"
Go to the "groups" panel
Set the upload form configuration for all groups to "Single file uploads only"

set File upload boxes to "1" (1)
set URI upload boxes to "0" (2)
set No. of boxes to "fixed" (3)

Save your new settings
(click on "Apply Modifications")

OK, I did all that, and I also fixed my template (kind of). I know I had overwritten it.

So, with the uploads reduced to one - it works (at least the upload takes) but that is no help as we tend to upload quite a few at a time.  What can I do?

So let me get this straight, I jump through all the hoops you guys set up for me and now there is no help?  Is there anything I can do to get myself back to multiple uploads?

If nobody is going to answer, just close the thread so I don't waste my time.

So let me get this straight, I jump through all the hoops you guys set up for me and now there is no help?

It is not jumping through hoops. These are steps you need to carry out for us to get the correct diagnostics. There are policies on this board for a reason and if you do not like following them then fine, pay for help or go elsewhere.

It took quite a number of posts for you to follow the advice given from the start and to set things up as requesed. Supporters do this unpaid in their spare time. Having to constantly come back requesting people to do what is outlined clearly in the docs is a waste of that time yet they still jump through hoops to help. If responses are slow then it may be because a thread has been missed, they cannot tell what's wrong or they are busy working hard on building new versions of CPG which is indeed what the devs are wotking hard on at the moment.

Now you have finally enabled single file uploads it was at first a struggle to use your custom them as it keeps breaking. You have also named it 'classic' which is not a good idea. You should really give custom themes a unique name.

To get round the failing them I used the hardwired theme on your site which luckilly you have installed.

http://www.superficialgallery.com/Celebs/albums/index.php?theme=hardwired

So I uploaded a couple of small files and they worked as expected.

http://www.superficialgallery.com/Celebs/albums/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0

These files are under 200k and wok fine.

However, when you upload larger pics we get the error message

Code: [Select]
No file was uploaded !

If you have really selected a file to upload, check that the server allows file uploads...

File: /home/superfi1/public_html/Celebs/albums/db_input.php - Line: 311

This message is only visible when single file uploads is selected in the config so now you can see why you were requested to do as above.

Unfortunately, this suggests that your host has imposed some limits and you need to speak to them to get the issue resolved. Maybe moving to this host was not a good idea.

thanks - consider this closed.

Phill - thanks in particular for the help.  And yes, as I stated above, I get how hard everyone works and how frustrating it must be when people don't read threads/docs etc etc..

But I think everyone who helps people on this board needs to remember that this forum is one of the only ways people get to know your software and your service.  Knowing what kind of support one is going to get is an important factor in choosing a package.  I have shown this thread to a few hosts and other people in the industry and they are frankly appalled.

Maybe it's a language barrier, maybe everyone is jaded, but this is without a doubt the most unfriendly place I have ever seen.  I get that people need to read the docs, but there is a difference between reading them and understanding them.  Everyone (except you) is condescending and short tempered.  And I don't care how busy anyone is, it is bad customer service.

You guys chose to make your software free.  That's not my problem.  If you had a pay support forum I would join it (you should consider it and if there is one gimme a link) but the software being free is not a get out of jail free card.  Bad customer service is bad customer service.  If you need money, ask for money.  Charge for the program.  Do whatever you want, but if you have a customer who needs help, even a stupid customer, help them and be nice about it.  Without them, you wouldn't be anything.

Just my two cents.  Thanks again for the help, and have a good day (sincerely).

The default image software is Inamgemagic, I had to change that to GD2 for the uploads.
