I've been having this issue for a few weeks now, and I'm not exactly sure what started to cause it. I've uploaded the pictures I want into a folder (CHMOD 755/775 for all folders and pictures inside /album/) via FTP. I go to batch add files, browse to the folder where I uploaded them and press "OK". And then I press "Insert Selected Files" but it drops me right back into the "Select Directory" screen.

I tried testing the batch add function by uploading smaller number of pictures; it had no problems doing up to 20-30 at a time, but anything beyond that it returns me back to the "Select Directory" screen without any other message. I tested the HTTP upload function and it worked without a problem for me, but perhaps that's because I was logged in as an admin user.

I checked the phpinfo for the suhosin information and they returned these values:

suhosin.post.max_vars: 400
suhosin.request.max_vars: 400

http uploads work as expected (see http://www.jorjaallaround.org/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-35033). Avoid special chars in folder and file names when batch-adding.

So the parentheses in the filenames are contributing to the problem? Man, I feel like a moron for missing something like that. -__-;;

Aside from them, what other symbols/characters should I avoid? I'm not the one who uploads the majority of the images, so I'd at least like to let my group know what not to name their files.

From the docs:

Folder names must not contain dots. We also highly recommend refraining from the use of any other special characters - use only a-z, numbers and - (dashes) or _ (underscores) to fill blank spaces.

Who's "them"? Are you trying to say that you're granting non-admins FTP upload permissions? You shouldn't do that - under no circumstances.

Oh no, they have no access to the FTP. They just save the screencaps, zip them up and email them to me. Then I unzip them, upload them and load them into the gallery.

Just this batch has been giving me some trouble over the past two weeks.

OK, that's fine then. But I don't think that you can expect your users to name the files properly. I suggest that you rename the files for them after unzipping them. There are some nice tools for batch-renaming files on the client like 1-4a rename
