Post time feature request
« on: July 14, 2008, 06:10:13 pm »

On my site I put up 5 new photos each day.  I would like to be able to upload a weeks worth (35 total) at once then have 5 show up each day with the appropriate date under each.

So it would look like this

July 14th - 5
July 15th - 5
July 16th - 5
July 17th - 5
July 18th - 5
July 19th - 5
July 20th - 5

I guess what I'm asking for is the ability to designate the "post time" of uploaded photos.

So what you want is to be able to set a timer on when to publish a picture and when to un-publish it. A sort of Publis Picture Timer.
Display picture_1.jpg from 14-7-2008 until 18-7-2008. Something like that ?

I took the liberty of editing your thread subject. Hope you don't mind.

Yes!  What I looking for is the ability to upload many pictures at once but be able to control when are published on my site.  For example in WordPress when you write a post you can click on EDIT TIME STAMP and choose the date you want it published in the future.  That is what I am looking for with the pictures I upload.  So if I sat down and uploaded say 100 pictures at one time I want to be able to edit the time stamp on each so only 5 are published each day over a 20 day period.

Thanks for your response Hein Traag and any help you can give in making this a reality is much appreciated.

I can see your point and I can see the need for this feature for some galleries. However, I'm not sure that it will go into the core, simply because of the sheer number of requests people would like to see and as well considering the personal needs of devs. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong and someone will look into this?

Anyone considered taking this on?  It would be greatly appreciated! Over the months since I first requested this I have tried to program it myself but my skills are lacking to say the least.  Any help is appreciated!

The feature freeze stage for cpg1.5.x has began the 15th of december of last year. The feature has not being added yet so there is no point on keeping asking if anyone it's interested.

Maybe this feature will be considerated in a future.

Just an idea how to implement this as a plugin.

  • Create an album that is only visible to you (admin)
  • Upload your new pictures to that album
  • Use some unused field (title, description, keyword) or new database field(s) to add a release date/timestamp
  • Move pictures according to the given release date/timestamp to a specified album
  • Update upload time
  • Clean up database entries if you used a standard field of cpg

Or

  • Upload new pictures to an album
  • Force admin approval
  • Use some unused field (title, description, keyword) or new database field(s) to add a release date/timestamp and maybe the album where it should be moved to
  • Approve pictures according to the given release date/timestamp
  • Update upload time
  • Clean up database entries if you used a standard field of cpg

Maybe I will code that if I have some boredom or financial attraction.

FYI: I coded a custom plugin for Davis that fits his needs. Maybe I will create a general plugin for cpg1.5.x
