Coppermine 1.2.0 RC2 released
« on: October 15, 2003, 10:32:15 am »

Hi all,

finally the coppermine dev team has released "Coppermine v1.2.0 RC2" - the first Coppermine release since Greg (the original Coppermine author) has parted from the project and the original site www.chezgreg.net went down.

Download:
You can download version 1.2.0 here:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.2.0rc2.zip?download (choose the mirror that is closest to you on the download page).

Bugs:
We labelled the release "RC2" (short for "release candidate"), because there are some minor bugs/known issues with it that have to be ironed out, please report on this board if you think you have found one.
The following slight quirks and tiny issues are known and will be fixed in future releases:
  • Some drop down menus (particularly in configuration page) and other small text items are only available in English. (Language issue)
  • There have been requests for the configuration page to have multiple submit buttons instead of one single button at the bottom of the page. (Usability issue)
  • Odd behavior if "Back" button is used during installation. (Installation issue)
  • Various error messages while in debug mode. (Does not affect main CPG app)
  • Administrators can ban themselves making it necessary to fix directly in dB. (Usability issue.) [/list:u]BBS-support:
the status of bbs support for Coppermine (when using the integration of user databases with the bridge files) hasn't changed significantly from version 1.1.1 to 1.2.0 and is still somewhat "experimental" - the main reason being the different structure of the existing bbs.

    Credits:
Please see the file /docs/credits.html that comes with the package. If we have forgotten someone, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Demo:
Watch Coppermine "live" on the demo gallery (theme and language selection don't come with the package yet, they have been added for the demo).

    Support:
If you need support for your Coppermine install, you can post on this board, but please make sure you have
    • read the readme, the manual and the especially the faq (frequently asked questions)
    • searched the support board - maybe someone has experienced the same trouble and your question has already been answered[/list:u]
      Features:
      • "Powered by Coppermine" points to this site
      • Added Title option to sort in albums
      • Separated the breadcrumb block so that it can be placed independently of category
      • Added option to choose max height or width for thumbnails - will help in creating nicer looking thumbnail rows and cols
      • Added option to display a clickable flimstrip of thumbnails below the image display
      • Added option to show first level albums of a category instead of just statistics of the category.
      • Added Absolute URL of a picture in the pic info this helps in giving out links to other people and the same picture will display regardless of the sort setting of the individual
      • Added option of turning on OR off the showing of "Private" Icon to unlogged / unprivileged user
      • Added Breadcrumb navigation to include album names
      • Added Last Updated Album Block
      • Fixed the bug in search.inc.php
      • Added Edit Name in comments
      • Favorites list
      • Resizing of thumbnails and intermediate pics after initial upload
      • Full-size pop-up closes on click
      • A block to have custom content like a news feed, info about the site ect
      • IP logging on comments and picture uploads
      • IP banning
      • Fixed Batch Update to force selection of an album & identify the category of an album
      • Added Email notification on Comment
      • Added 'no right-click' admin option[/list:u]

Upgrading:You can easily upgrade from a previous version of Coppermine to 1.2.0 - please read the readme that comes with the package carefully (and remember to backup your existing gallery first - you never know); there's an upgrade script that comes with 1.2.0.

        Thanks:
I would like to say a BIIIG "thank you" to all who contributed to coppermine, especially the guys from the dev team - you're great! I really enjoy working with you :D

        Enjoy

I have read about the update from 1.1.0 > easy

I don't sure to understand tarique :)

But ... in each theme, the code is very simple to edit (of course we must know html code :))

I have apprecied too some things have been separated.

I'm afraid of uptading ... I begin in 5 mn (I realize a backup of the 1.1.0)

Always don't understand with PHPBB2, but it's me the problem.

Suggestion how to upgrade
« Reply #5 on: October 15, 2003, 08:41:55 pm »

I have to made the upgrade from CPG 1.1 to Coppermine v1.2.0 RC2

And the upgrade worked great, but I think the guidelines how to upgrade isn't userfriendly enough so I suggest this description:

Upgrading from releases of version 1.1

To do with your existing settings
1. Backup your file from your folder: include/config.inc.php file and your "albums" directoy of version 1.1

To do with your upgrade version 1.2 before upload
1. Unpack the downloaded zip file
2. Delete file: install.php from root directory
3. Delete file config.inc.php in folder include
4. Delete folder: albums
4. Uploade files and folders and overwrite existing files
5. Call the upgrade script http://yousitename/coppermine_dir/update.php
6. After update delete file update.php
Your upgrade should be complete.

Remember this is just a suggestion.

Keep op the good work DEV team.

try another mirror in the download page, that's what mirrors are for.
Sourceforge servers are experiencing lags (probably due to server load issues).

I currently have 1.1.1 running with phpbb/bbs integration. Would the newer version work with phpbb or is it not supported in new version?

thanks
