what version?

how do i find out what version i am running? second my site is getting a ton of spam comments how do i remove them? my site was built back in 2005 and nothing has been done since then do i need to do all of the updates or if i just do the last few ones will this update all back ones?

go to  the versioncheck.php file.

The latest release (1.4.18 on this moment) content all modifications .

The version you use is visible on the config page as well. Alternatively, view the generated HTML output and scroll to the bottom of that output page.
