I have just installed cpgv1.4.18 and I'll admit up front I am a novice when it comes to settingthings up.   Installation went smoothly, I made all of the folder permission changes (and have checked them multiple times!) - I added a category and an album, mirrored the category will upload folder(s) in /album, again set permissions to 777.
I uploaded a few small .jpegs using ftp - they appear in the upload folder o.k.   I tried to run batch add files - the images appeared, ticked, selected the album o.k. - but when I contnue I do not get OK, DP, PB, - (I get NA if I dont select an album) - but I just get X'd out checkboxes and nothing is added to the album.

I apologise in advance if this is already answered elsewhere - I have trawled through as many messages as I can without finding a clue - and I've RTFM quite a few times now.

Any help greatly appreciated as this on-line album deperately required for our charity.

Charles

You've probably seen these links given out a few hundred times already then...

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_support

Please do as suggested.

Yes, I read this section but was not clear if it applied to my problem as the files were uploaded via ftp o.k. but failed to be 'imported' to my Coppermine album.  I now stand corrected.
I tried another batch file update again -  before making the settings changes - with one very small file (39kb) - it was successful.

I have created the user account Test with password 1111.   Using http uploads I now get the error message " No file was uploaded!    If you really selected a file to upload, check the server really allos file uploads....."
File:/home/cwsheareruk/public_html/cpg1.4.18/cpg1418/db_input.php - line 311

Hopefully, I have carried out the instructions to the letter - any support appreciated.

No, you haven't: test accounts help even more if we have an actual gallery to use the test user account on. You failed to post the link to your gallery ::)

Nope, that's nonsense: coppermine doesn't contain a file named index.html in the root folder - that's why it's expected behaviour that you get the error message

Actual ink to your gallery is http://cwshearer.co.uk/cpg1.4.18/cpg1418/ or http://cwshearer.co.uk/cpg1.4.18/cpg1418/index.php (although this is an utterly silly address in the first place as well - I can't see any reason for nesting this two folders deep, especially with such a strange folder name).

Regular http uploads work as expected (see http://cwshearer.co.uk/cpg1.4.18/cpg1418/displayimage.php?pos=-3)

Once again - my error - I suffixed .html as opposed to .php.   But this was a typo - not the address I was actually using (I am one of the many suffering from the loss of Cut 'n Paste in Vista Ultimate).   My profuse apologies.

The solution may well have been something to do with the fact that I contacted my web host and they instructed me to their Control Panel 'advanced settings in PHP' - where I had to add 'upload_tmp_dir' and 'session_save_path' - then create a /tmp directory in my root and give 777 permissions to the folder.   I confess I have no understanding of the fault - something to do with open_basedir? (I did read 4.11.2 item 7 which gave me the clue / query to my host).

This was done a couple of hours ago.   I must say very concise and polite instructions were given by my host and it appeared to work.

As for the names / nesting - this is exactly how the files were unzipped and therefore copied - I appreciate I could have changed this - so I'm stupid!

Here's hoping I don't have to waste your time and patience again.

You can renamed the folder coppermine resides in to anything you want.
Issue solved?

Hi,   :D
I am delighted to say that uploading / importing issues seem to have been resolved.
I will rename the folders now that I know they do not affect things in any way - as for the nesting - if not an issue I'll leave it rather than risk problems.

As a matter of interest, my host was able to quickly help because their support area "has had a number of approaches from customers installing Coppermine with the same issues and solution, they actually installed it themselves to resolve" - perhaps you could save yourself valuable time, avoid frustration and bad temper all round by documenting / asking users to check on this requirement for a /tmp directory with appropriate permissions.   You, obviously, can explain it much better than I, a mere mortal, ever could.

Issue resolved - my thanks.

It's not a normal requirement for the user to do that; it's something particular to your webhost.

There are instructions even for "exotic" webserver setups like yours in the docs that will ship with cpg1.5.x though...
