Unable to create thumbnail or reduced size image

My gallery got hacked as many others, too.
I updated it with the latest version.
I set the permissions in the album directory to 777.
I checked the size of thumbnails and normal images.
I tried out with Image Magick and GD and put the right paths.
I still get this error message:

The file 'albums/userpics/10001/80722740~0.jpg' can't be inserted in the album

Unable to create thumbnail or reduced size image.

Same problem here but the hack had reset in Config->Files and thumbnails settings ->Max width or height of an intermediate picture/video to 1
I just reset to 500 and all okay now.

No, I already wrote that I checked the size. I made it 400 and I still have that problem

Set permissions on the albums folder and everything within it as suggested in the documentation.

I checked it again and set the permissions in the album folder to 777. Following happens:

/albums/userpics/10001 and others: doesn't work, this message comes up:

And when I try to upload a pic, this shows up at the bottom of the page:

Is the edit button missing in this board or am I blind?^^

I wanted to add that the 777 jumps out somehow... it works and when I go into FTP the next time it's out again :/ I use WS_FTP

Leave notices_display turned off if you have no idea what it is supposed to be used for.
If you have issues CHMODing, do as suggested in the permissions section of the docs: ask your webhost for support.
