[Solved]: Problem installing backup 2.3 plugin
« on: March 29, 2008, 10:50:22 am »

I'm trying to install the backup 2.3 plugin into cpg 1.4.16 to simplify doing MySQL backups.

I downloaded the plugin, unzipped it, and copied it to .../gallery/plugins/

Went to Admin>Config>manage plugins but it doesn't show up as being avalable. The Sample plugin shows OK. No plugins are installed.

Tried refreshing the page, deleting the plugin from the folder and trying over again, but whatever I do I can't see the plugin through the plugin manager.

Grateful for any help.

I'm running off-line at the moment on an XAMPP installation on my local PC. I haven't yet tried installing the plugin on the live site - I wanted to check it out first off-line.

Don't know if it's normal behaviour but .....

.... if I enable plugins using the radio button in Config General, then go to the plugin manager, when I come back to General settings the button has been reset to "disable plugins"

So the plugin is being displayed on the plugin manager in the first place?

Just restored the MySQL from yesterday's backup. Now, the first time I go to plugin manager I see the Backup plugin. When I hit "I" to install, it disappears from the "not installed" area, but doesn't appear in the "installed" section. Thereafter it never shows up anywhere.

Use phpMyAdmin, check the contents of the plugin table. Post a screenshot.

Joachim - getting to the limits of my knowledge now! Not sure how to post a screen shot.

If it helps, PHPMyAdmin shows cpg_plugins as:

plugin_id:       1
plugin_name:  Backup
path:            backup
priority:         0

Let me know if you need more

I really need to see this live. Post a link to your live gallery if you can. I can hardly recommend anything if I can't see things.

Installing the sample plugin results in the very same thing, so I guess that it's not the backup plugin (or any particular plugin at all), but a mod that you must have applied wrong. I suggest performing an upgrade (although you actually seem to run cpg1.4.16 already). Make sure that you're replacing all coppermine files with vanilla ones from the upgrade/install package, then try again. You should as well fix your custom theme - after logging in and then switching to your default theme, you get an error message (see screenshot) that is not to be expected, even if you want to remove the login link on your custom theme. You appear to have tampered too much with your coppermine install.

Joachim:

1) I got the same results on two "vanilla" cpg installations, on two separate servers, running two different themes.

2) I've only ever edited the contents of my custom theme folder - never touched any other part of cpg. The error page you saw I only ever get if I'm logged in as admin under one theme and then try to view the gallery in another browser tab on a different theme which has the login option removed.

3) But now it works! And I'm almost too embarassed to admit why ...... but I'll suffer the embarassment for others who may fall into the same trap:

When I tried to install the plugin, I set "enable plugins" under Config>General Settings, but then went straight to "Manage Plugins" without first clicking "Save New Configuration"; turns out that the plugins get lost that way. Once I realised I needed to "enable plugins", then save the config before coming back in to use the plug in manager, everything was OK. Now working fine.

Apologies if I've wasted your time - I guess it's SO obvious looking back!

If you remove the login option you need to keep the comments surrounding it. They are important.

Nibbler - the srrounding comments are all in place. I simply commented out the Login and Logout addbutton calls. I only ever see that error page when I'm logged in as Admin to make some config changes, and then simultaneously open up another Browser tab to view the result on a different theme that has Login and Logout removed. This is not an issue for me - I just have to remember to logout before I use the other theme. It will never be something a site visitor does.

But I guess this is getting off topic from the original plugin problem:)

The reason it took me so long to spot my silly mistake was that, even with plugins disabled, I was able to go to the plugin manager, install the plugin, and see that it was showing up in the MySQL db cpg_plugins table.

But now I'm a very "happy bunny" again. Thanks!
