Random thumbnails missing
« on: March 06, 2008, 10:10:57 am »

Hello,

Several days back i moved my gallery to new server and for some reason several hundred thumbnails disuppeared. I tried to locate them physically in userfolders, they were not there. When i went back to old hosting ftp, those thumbnail files were also missing. Whats weird about this is that normal_filename and file itself are there, the only thing missing was thumbnails.
I used admin toolkit function to renew the thumbnails, and updated the database, but it did not work.
You can take a look at the problem here  http://www.adygaunion.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=lastupby&uid=9

thank you.

Then you've read that 'random' will display the random thumbs
Quote
'random': random files (leaving random files "on" for huge galleries with more than 10,000 pics might result in performance problems; switch random "off" in this case)

So yours should look eg. like
Code: [Select]
breadcrumb/catlist/alblist/lastup,2/random,2/lasthits,1

You misunderstood my problem.
Let me refrase without useing the word 'random' that created this confusion.

When i moved my gallery to ne host, some thumbnails from particular user got lost and I can not recover them. The reason for that is unknown. My problem is not on the main page, it is actually all over the gallery. Thumbnails are not showing up, but when you click on blank thumbnail image comes up with no problem.

See this page as example http://www.adygaunion.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=lastupby&uid=9&lang=english_gb
Try to click on one of empty thumbnails.

I needed help with recovering or renewing the thumbnails for these files or whole gallery if its possible.

Log in as admin > Admin Tools (in the admin menu) > "Update thumbs and/or resized photos (1)" > Only Thumbnails > 200 images per click (this works for me, try lower if it doesn't for you) > Scroll down to "Select album" > All Albums (default) > Submit

That should do it :)

uhhh...
*feels like an idiot*
sorry.

If you batch-uploaded any of them, you may have to check the permissions on the FTP Folder before the admin repair thing will work.

But, alas, you seem like you know more than I, so I'll leave this to the experts.

check if the 'missing' files exist on your server using FTP or SSH. If the exist check permissions and ownership of all files/ folders in the albums directory... or let your host apply permissions and ownership for you.

If they do not exist, means if you haven't transfered all files properly, you need to recreate them (as you already tried to do). If that doesn't work, do as artoonie suggested and change permissons of the albums folder and its subfolders as described in the docs (777 or 755, depending on your setup)
